Organization

“The General Office of Justice, Peace, and Integrity of Creation (JPIC), located in the General Curia of the Friars Minor, provides assistance to the Minister General and the General Definitory in animating and coordinating everything related to Justice, Peace, and Integrity of Creation, in accordance with the General Constitutions, General Statutes, and decisions of the General Chapters and Plenary Councils of the Order” (EEpp, Art. 1).

It is from this Office that the response to Mandate No. 28 of the OFM General Chapter of 2021 has been addressed. This mandate states: “The Minister General and his Definitory, in collaboration with the JPIC Office and the SGME, must continue with the implementation of the Franciscan Network of the Mediterranean and the Franciscan Network for Migrants in Latin America, and will continue to promote and accompany similar projects and processes in favor of migrants in Africa, Asia, and in all border areas of the Order.”.

Committee

On July 20, 2022, the Decree of the General Curia was issued, appointing the individuals who make up the Committee for the implementation of this RFMed:

  • Fr. Francesco Zecca, OFM, Taranto (Italy);
  • Sr. Miriam Oyarzo, FMSC, Istanbul (Turkey);
  • Fr. Markus Heinze, OFM, Geneva (Switzerland), Franciscans International;
  • Fr. Fausto Yudego, OFM, Pamplona (Spain);
  • Maru Ríos OFS, Marseille (France)

Tasks

  • Understand what is already being done.
  • Introduce the Network to the Franciscan Family, Church, and Civil Society.
  • Establish connections with the Franciscan Family, Church, and Civil Society.
  • Organize face-to-face meetings with different members of the Network.
  • Coordinate ongoing activities.
  • Facilitate processes of fraternity.
  • Provide humanizing responses within this reality.
  • Help create a future of life within the Mediterranean.

  • Convene and prepare the agenda for meetings (mostly monthly online).
  • Take minutes of each meeting and share them on the Network’s Drive.
  • Manage the Network’s Drive.
