Immigrants and Refugees

General objective

For the Mediterranean to cease being a place of death and become an OIKOS, a space of life and welcome for all individuals who transit through it.

    Specific objectives

    1. To understand what the Franciscan Family, Church, and Civil Society are already doing in the Mediterranean.

    2. To hold a face-to-face meeting with individuals from each organization that are already working with migrants and refugees, to coordinate efforts, optimize existing resources, and collaborate within a network to enhance our effectiveness in welcoming and supporting migrants and refugees in the locations where RFMed is present.

    Activities

    Conduct a mapping of the current assistance provided by the Franciscan Family around the Mediterranean and make it available on the RFMed website.

    Establish connections with individuals working in this area within the Franciscan Family, the Church, and Civil Society.

    Maintenance of the RFMed website.

    Organize a 3-day meeting in Marrakech, Morocco, from May 9th to May 12th, 2024, inviting individuals from the Franciscan Family across different countries around the Mediterranean to foster acquaintance and explore the best ways to coordinate efforts and form a network to optimize resources for the benefit of migrants and refugees.

    Dialogue and Peace

    General objective

    For the Mediterranean to cease being a place of death and become an OIKOS, a space of life and welcome for all individuals who transit through it.

    1. To learn about what the Franciscan Family, Church, and Civil Society are already doing in the Mediterranean.

    2. Meeting and collaboration with the OFM Commission for Interreligious Dialogue to explore ways of working together.

    Mapping the care currently provided by the Franciscan Family around the Mediterranean and making it available on the RFMed website.

    Establish connections with individuals working in this area within the Franciscan Family, the Church, and Civil Society.

    Coordinating and networking from a place of intercultural and interreligious respect, along with working for peace with the Franciscan Family, the Church, and Civil Society, to be able to go beyond ideological differences and radicalizations that, along with economic interests, lead us to conflict and wars.

    Youth

    General objective

    May the youth be the protagonists in changing the vision of the Mediterranean, so that it truly becomes a common home (OIKOS) for all people and nations.

    Specific objectives

    1.Promote knowledge, exchange, and intercultural dialogue with other young people from the Mediterranean, articulating the local and global dimensions.

    Activities

    Mapping, at the territorial level, those in the Franciscan Family who are working with young people in the Mediterranean.

    Offer volunteer programs for young people in the various Franciscan presences in the Mediterranean, such as OIKOS Young in Italy, and others in Morocco, Turkey, France, Spain…
